Martin King’s ‘Traveling South’ is a meditation on the paradoxes, or “tragic irony”, embedded in Australia’s landscape. Water and fire, surveyed by a bird. These creatures have always fascinated King, their poetic silhouettes and symbolic resonance haunting his practice.

King is represented nationally at the National Gallery of Australia, the Art Gallery of NSW, State Library of Victoria and Parliament House. Internationally, he is in the collections of the British Museum, Carleton College Library, Minnesota, Bharat Bhavan India and Bihra Museum, India. In 2019, he was awarded both the Muswellbrook Drawing Prize and the Gallipoli Art Prize.

For collectors of works on paper, ‘Traveling South’ is an elegant and lasting image. It will make your space soar.
