Noel McKenna

B. 1956

Noel McKenna is one of Australia's most celebrated contemporary artists. Working across mediums, he is interested in moments of quotidian connection and loneliness. A single figure often populates his work, accompanied by their pet. Indeed, the National Gallery of Victoria has crowned McKenna the best painter of Chihuahuas in Australian art history. Equal parts melancholic, humorous and enchanting, his unique vision has and continues to capture audiences.

McKenna's work is represented across national collections. He is the recipient of numerous art prizes, including the Trustees Watercolour Prize at the Art Gallery of New South Wales, which he has won five times.
