B. 1928

A highly respected artist, Mary Hammond is represented in public collections including the War Memorial, Canberra, the State Library of Victoria, Artbank and the City of Melbourne. She emerged along Vic O’Connor, Noel Counihan and Jim Wigley, sharing in their belief that art can be a tool for social reform and in 1953, she exhibited with the Melbourne Realist Group.

Hammond's subjects are often women. Forthright yet dignified, she pays close attention to the struggles and delights of ordinary life.
