1924 – 2006

Prolifically creative, Kenneth Jack seemed to produce art throughout his life, no matter his location. Shortly after finishing his education to teach drawing, the artist’s planned career trajectory changed as conflict in Europe intensified. Jack joined the Royal Australian Air Force – however, he still found time to study watercolour under John Rowell and publish some of his work with the RAAF publication, Log and Wings.

In the mid 1940s, Jack spent 18 months in the islands north of Australia. Inspired by his new surroundings, he was able to create over 500 artworks of varying mediums. Returning home, Jack was able to return to the career of teaching art. His previous explorations across seas translated into extended expeditions across Australia. Finding more inspiration in the urban and rural landscapes of his home country, the artist became known for having the ability to express the powerful elements of the environments around him. 

Jack is a renowned artist nationally and internationally, with works in collections such as the Royal Collection at Windsor, Victoria and Albert museum, National Gallery of Australia and the Australian War Memorial, as well as most state collections. Celebrated for his painterly ability, Jack was the only Australian born member of the Royal Watercolour Society in London.
